Two new permanent secretaries have been appointed at the foreign affairs and the education ministries.
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi presented letters of appointment to John Paul Grech who has been assigned to the Foreign Affairs Ministry and to James Calleja who will work at the Education Ministry.
Dr Grech has served within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1990 and has occupied senior positions within the ministry, including those related to European and Mediterranean security issues.
He is married to Margot and has three sons: Jonathan, Nathaniel and Matthias.
Dr Calleja joined the civil service as a teacher in 1981 and held managerial and research positions at the Foundation for International Studies, the United Nations Institute on Ageing and, in 2005, spearheaded the Malta Qualifications Council where he serves as chief executive.
