The Acting Director of Prisons said today that a magisterial inquiry is to be held following claims in a section of the media of sexual abuses involving inmates.

A police report has also been filed.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti will lead the inquiry.

It-Torca reported yesterday that a young man who had spent time in prison had told Fr Colin Apap in a radio phone-in that prisoners, including a minor, were subjected to sexual abuse by the prison wardens just to get some cigarettes.
