GreenPak will be holding a meeting for entrepreneurs to brief them on the latest developments in the law governing packaging and waste recovery and recycling.

Businesses producing packaging and packaging material are obliged by law to recover and recycle a percentage of it. GreenPak said packaging on which eco contribution is paid is exempt if such businesses joined an authorised waste recovery scheme.

In light of the recent developments, GreenPak will be holding an information meeting on Friday at 2.30 p.m. at the offices of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry in Valletta.

The meeting will tackle various topics including registration and enforcement of the law, the eco tax exemption mechanism and the benefits of joining a compliance scheme.

GreenPak will set up a support desk to provide assistance to individuals who need help in filling the necessary forms due by the end of this month. The forms include the eco contribution exemption application.

GreenPak Coop CEO Mario Schembri said the cooperative aimed to recover and recycle as much waste as possible, thus reducing the amount of waste going to landfills.

He said the meeting on Friday would help to make businesses and entrepreneurs better aware of their rights and responsibilities in light of the new legislation and to offer them options to efficiently and effectively recover waste.
