The first three Maltese men to climb Mount Everest last year were awarded the Frank Salt Investment Award for National Pride.

The Challenge 8000 trio – engineer Marco Cremona, doctor Greg Attard and business systems consultant Robert Gatt – were given the €2,500 cash award aimed at people who were a source of pride for all Maltese citizens.

“It’s great to have our effort acknowledged and appreciated... We hope all can challenge themselves to be better, not only for themselves, but for the country,” Mr Cremona said soon after receiving the award from Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.

Dr Gonzi congratulated the men for their feat that had an important message.

“Even though we are a small island, with no mountains, there’s nothing stopping us from climbing Everest,” Dr Gonzi said.
