Accused of trying to injure his father

A man was yesterday charged with threatening his father with a knife during an argument.

Stephen Cassar, 23, pleaded not guilty to attempting to seriously injure his father, Mark, and assaulting him on Friday at about 2.15 p.m.

Police Inspector Jesmond Micallef explained the two worked together in the family business.

“You can’t just pick up a knife and threaten whoever you have a fight with,” Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona told the accused. Defence lawyer Matthew Brincat requested the court to refer his client to Mount Carmel Hospital for a psychiatric examination.

Magistrate Micallef Trigona remanded Mr Cassar in custody and recommended the prison director to have him transferred to Mount Carmel and appoint a psychiatrist.
