Where is my tax refund?
Like Emmanuel Farrugia (January 13) I too am expecting a four-figure refund of excess tax.
This was due to be refunded by the end of the 2010 financial year. Other prospective recipients are urged to put pen to paper.

Seeing there is so much owed to so many, we must come up with ideas.
I for one will make a printout of this blog and take it to the Consumers Association.
If that fails I will knock on the door of the Ombudsman.
Don't tell me it's futile - at least we must do something and take some action.
Any more ideas guys?

Atta Boy Tony Borg, " just do it " and I think it's NOT futile and at least you are trying to do something concreste in retaliation instead of just moaning. After all it's your money and you have to make pressure on the Department of Inland Revenue to get it. Jekk ma tibkix ma terdghax ? If you intend to start with the Consumers' Association, I think you can send an email on their website, www.camalta.org.

I am one of many still owed refund of income tax from 1989. Yes, the last century, exactly 22 years ago. a few years ago i received about 10% of the amount due and was given 00.0006% interest on the amount.
If ever i receive the balance, i will be six feet under....xgost, kemm sejjer inqawdihom

@ aldo portelli.....How dare you ask for your tax refund! How do you expect the ministers to get their 600 euros a week if they pay you your dues! get your priorities right -- first the gods eat, then we lesser mortals

That makes it nearly 9,000 Euro in this blog between eight people and I am still waiting to count more. Last year it was 11.6 million Euro in tax refunds. And there I was thinking people did not care. No wonder people find it difficult to pay water & elect.bills ? Who else has an Income Tax refund ? Join the club ?

Emanuel Farrugia I suggest you start a facebook page to shame the Government for keeping your money for so long when it does not want

It should be up to the people to shame the Government by putting their money where their mouth is. IT'S THEIR MONEY ? I just want what's mine ?

It seems that only overpayments of less than €1000 were repaid by end december 2010.
They are living in a strait financial jacket and so have to be creative to keep debt figures in line with eu directives.

I am owed by the Inland Revenue Department €1000 in over-paid tax.
I phoned and I called at the Department in Floriana and even wrote.
No commitment from the department or a hint when this sum will be refunded.
It's our hard-earned earnings Mr.Government - why the foot-dragging????

I too am awaiting a 1083 euro refund for overpaid tax on basic year 2009. Like all others iwas informed that they had till the end of December to issue the refund. In the meantime i had to settle a much lesser tax billof 400 euro with penalties, under threat,by the end of November.

Mr. Mifsud The tax you had to pay by end November, 2010 was from previous years and you were also given a discount of 25% on what you had to pay. But I wonder how every one is due more than a thousand Euros. How did each of you paid so much over tax? Did you not calculate what the CIR was Due?

That's already 3,000 Euro from just three people. Any more, for any more ? No pressure, no measure ? Min ma jibkix ma jerdax ?

I too am waiting for what I paid in excess for years basis 2008 and 2009. It must be a four figure sum. I was told when enquired that I'll be having refund plus interest. A bird in hand...
