A few weeks ago I used public transport on a couple of occasions. When a bus arrived it was a free-for-all as to who got on first. On both occasions, in different locations, two young women happened to arrive at the bus stop as the bus arrived. They proceeded to get on the bus first. Some older ladies were lucky to find a seat at the back of the bus. The younger ones plunked themselves on seats at the front.
I wondered if this behaviour was an exception and decided to conduct some research. Anytime I happened to be near a bus stop I observed what happened and it was the same.
On one occasion two commuters, wearing T-shirts “announcing” their graduation, just crossed the street as a bus was approaching and got on first, no comment. Two elderly people had to stand unless they found some other passengers with better manners. It’s obvious that bus users need some education. The drivers are getting it for the changes in July so maybe the public needs it as well.
Just an idea: Borrow the number system from the deli counters in the supermarkets. Nobody argues there anymore, nobody forgets to get a ticket and everyone is happy.
