The Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations (MCWO) recently held its AGM, during which Reneé Laiviera was elected as the new chairman.

Ms Laiviera has contributed to the causes of gender equality, the rights of women and the elimination of violence against women. She has held positions within the public service, where she was responsible for the gender equality portfolio. Ms Laiviera has also served on commissions and committees working on comparable areas of concern.

Other members elected to the executive board are: Maria Bartolo Galea, Kate Bonello Sullivan, Mariella Azzopardi, Lorraine Spiteri and Anna Borg. Marceline Naudi has been nominated MCWO’s expert on violence against women on the European Women’s Lobby’s Observatory.

The MCWO is an umbrella organisation that represents 15 local member organisations which collectively have 24,000 female members. The MCWO is a full member of the Brussels based European Women’s Lobby.
