SmartCity to start Phase II of development this month
SmartCity Malta is to start the building of Phase II of the project this month.
It will consist of two office blocks and two exclusive retail blocks overlooking the lagoon.
Fareed Abdulrahman, SmartCity and SmartCity Malta CEO, in a statement said that Phase II was another major milestone at SmartCity Malta following the completion and inauguration of Phase I, the first office block.
"We are well geared for the expected recovery of the world’s economy and confident that Malta will be the hub for ICT/media cluster developments in the Mediterranean region”
Phase II and the subsequent phases of the development will be connected with the existing infrastructure services of Phase I. Phase II is located adjacent to SCM 01, where the landscape is terraced, creating pedestrianised open areas linking retail and office blocks.
"The architectural massing of the development is carefully coordinated to provide knowledge workers with panoramic views of the lagoon and coastline with a maximum exposure to natural lighting," SmartCity said.
The tender for Phase II has been awarded to Attard Bros. Co. Ltd.
"Their appointment demonstrates SmartCity Malta’s support to the Maltese building industry by using local talent and experience. Throughout their history Attard Bros. Co. Ltd., have executed a wide range of successful large scale developments," SmartCity said.

It took SmartCity three years to built just a 5 storey block of squarish building, without an underlying car park ,which they call phase 1. How about that as a direct foreigh investment.
We were told that they are well geared for the expected recovery of the world’s economy. Ha, so that's what took them so long to build one block of offices, they were waiting for the economy to recover, And I always thought that the reason behind this delay was because the project was a white elephant.
Be reminded that for this small biulding which took three years to complete they requested a tunnel coming all the way from Marsa for utility services. A sewage tunnel more than a storey high was excavated to serve SmartCity at the expense of all residents in Wied Blandun Fgura area, were a large mound of excavation waste was left in the valley.
One other thing, for this 5 storey building at SmartCity a new road is being proposed at Triq Bieb is-Sultan, Zabbar, to accommodate a large traffic flow of about 6,000 cars daily to and from Rinella.
Very smart indeed.
