There is one commercial vehicle for every three private vehicles in Gozo, a percentage which is far greater than in Malta, information given in Parliament shows.

The Transport Minister said that there are 16,619 vehicles registered as 'private' in Gozo, along with 5,150 commercial vehicles and 2,844 motorcycles. There are also 565 self-drive hire cars and 49 taxis.

In Malta, there are 201,037 private vehicles and 35,815 commercial vehicles, along with 9,776 motorcycles, 6,413 hire cars and 199 taxis.

The total stock of cars (also including buses and coaches) has risen from 273,569 in 2009 to 279,173 last year.
