The Malta Union of Teachers has ordered a one-hour strike by kindergarten assistants in government schools on Monday, January 31.

It said they will report one hour late for work in protest at the government's failure to honour commitments to assimilate into the grade of Kindergarten Assistant 2, those assistants who had followed the required course - at their expense.

Kindergarten assistants who had been successful in their interviews for grade two had also not seen their conditions improved.

The situation, the MUT said, was supposed to have been addressed by the end of last year and the union had no alternative but to order industrial action.
