The Water Services Corporation has promised to submit the eight pending documents it owes to the Malta Resources Authority within the seven-day grace period it has been offered.
Last Friday the MRA issued an enforcement order to WSC for failing to submit several reports and documents required to fulfil its license obligations, including an Emergency Response Plan and accounting records.
When asked why the deadlines and extensions were missed by months, a WSC spokesman said:
“The corporation had already submitted volumes of information to the regulator on several other matters. In this case, there was a delay in these areas but the relevant information would have been eventually submitted.”
The spokesman was also asked for more details about some of the reports. The leakage control plan, he said, was a report outlining strategies and methodology used to manage leaks, as well as benchmarks and targets for the next three years. The emergency response plan identifies the hazards and risks that may impact the WSC’s capacity to supply potable water.
He added that the latest management accounts were submitted on November 29 and covered the nine-month period up to September 30.
The corporation also pointed out that the employees working with the MRA’s water branch were all ex-employees of the WSC and were personally involved with drawing up plans prior to the authority’s setting up.
