A conference is being held at Dar l-Emigrant, Valletta, on Friday at 4 p.m. The speaker at this event will be Archbishop Agostino Marchetto who, until recently, was the secretary of the Pontifical Council for Migrants andItinerant Peoples.
Mgr Marchetto, 70, considers his 20 years of diplomatic service in African countries and his additional 10 years of dedicated work directly in the interest of migrants and refugees as his personal contribution to the Church’s struggle for a single human family.
As the migration phenomenon continues to develop, he is known for his long-standing commitment for the promotion of a decent life for every human being and for the common good of all people.
Mgr Marchetto narrated his experience to Italian journalist Marco Roncalli, who recently published the interview in a book entitled, Chiesa e migrant: La mia battaglia per una sola famigla umana (Church and migrant: my struggle for a single human family).
The conference, which is open to the public, is being organised by the Emigrants’ Commission on the occasion of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2011, which is being celebrated by the Church next Sunday.
Following Mgr Marchetto’s address, there will be time for interventions and questions from the floor.
