Health Minister Joe Cassar has denied he has taken a position in the priests’ child abuse case, as reported by certain media.

In a Health Ministry statement published by the Department of Information, Dr Cassar said that he had been called as witness in the case to give evidence about someone he had been following as a psychiatrist before he became parliamentary secretary and minister.

Dr Cassar said he answered the questions put to him, as was his duty, in the presence of the accused and one of the alleged victims, who was accompanied by his lawyer.

The conclusions reported, he said, were opinions and not facts. The allegations that he took a position were completely unfounded and were being categorically denied.
