San Andrea Senior School, Imselliet, recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.

The school grounds were decked out to resemble an Olympic stadium, with flags representing different countries raised and a large spread of food typical to several different countries, including bigilla, cured meats, pies and scones, set up in the foyer.

Traditional Maltese games were played, including hopscotch and boċċi; the school’s drama students presented a selection of short plays and scenes which they had prepared for the day and the school choir sang a repertoire of songs.

Former school captains and vice captains were present at the event and a plaque was unveiled to mark this milestone in the school’s history. This plaque is now in the senior school foyer among the students’ trophies and other awards.

The school was founded in 1992 ago by a group of teachers together with the Parents Foundation of Education; today, the school hosts students of various nationalities.

The school was founded as an educational project with the aim of employing dedicated educators that would hand down the required basic knowledge to children in a manner that would develop their inquisitive mind, forming a sound base of education for further development.

In the first years following the school’s launch, the first two classes were held at Sedqa in Naxxar.

In 2000, San Andrea opened the third building for the first four classes of grade 8 students and two classes of Grade 9 and 10 students. Three years later, the latter became the first grade 12 of San Andrea Senior School.

In 2003, the first crop of students sat for their ‘O’ levels.

The school has a reputation for high grades and a holistic approach towards education.

Throughout the last decade, San Andrea school has been involved in numerous educational activities, not only within the school premises, but also outside the school grounds and in national and international events. San Andrea teachers strive to abide by the school’s motto, ‘Respect Reason Responsibility’, and pass this philosophy on to their students.
