Fomer Nationalist MP Philip Saliba has passed away, aged 89.

Dr Saliba, who was from Zebbug, was elected to Parliament for the first time in 1952 and served as deputy speaker between 1962 and 1971.

Dr Saliba was actively involved in the Independence Referendum and he was the MP who moved the motion for Parliament to co-opt Eddie Fenech Adami after the death of George Caruana. 

The Pn expressed its condolences to the Saliba family.
