Cat welfare organisation gets eviction order

Animal welfare officers and volunteers were outraged this week when Macina Development Company LTD ordered a non-governmental organisation to vacate its premises of five years by next week.

The organisation - CSAF, which looks after abandoned and ill cats, now has until January 16 to get out of the building.

It said in a statement that it consulted vets and the government’s animal welfare officers, who were alarmed by the plan.

CSAF coordinator Anna Abela said the organisation had not been given reasonable timeframe to move safely.

“We appeal to the consortium to honour our rights as an NGO and to recognise our role in maintaining public health and animal welfare in Senglea.

“We need so little to keep the cats safe, so to us it seems cruel and hasty to kick out these helpless pets without engaging with us in civil dialogue.”

The NGO is now appealing for urgent public support to find a small, safe area to re-house the cats.

If you ever feel the need for help and assistance from civil human beings like police ,ambulance ,fire brigade ,doctor , nurse ,neighbors and family members ,you need to worry no more now ,you can make your call to your dog for assistance.

Michael Borg, that is because a cat shows more love and affection that a human.

why can't they help cats if they want to? animals are helpless beings and need all the help required.. these most probably are cats who were thrown out in the streets by humans! so, i'd prefer helping a cat rather than a person as persons in need are as such in need because they don't help themselves and just feel sorry for themselves! a cat cannot do that!

everyone is free to put his r her efforts wherever and to whoever they wish. I personally admire these volunteers and gladly donate money to help them along. No one has a right to decide what is a 'better' cause. For me, one happy cat is equivalent to one happy human.
