Sex offender jailed
A convicted sex offender was jailed for three years and six months for exposing himself and carrying out indecent acts with a 10-year-old boy.
Carmel Vella, 49, was found guilty of defiling the boy and holding him against his will in 1993 and earlier.
The boy is not related to Mr Vella. who was also found guilty of committing indecent sexual acts with the boy in various places around Malta.
In handing down judgment, Magistrate Saviour Demicoli took into consideration the seriousness of the crime and the fact that Mr Vella had been previously found guilty of a similar crime.
Apart from imprisonment, also fined him €1,160.
Police Inspector Louise Calleja prosecuted.
Lawyer Kris Busietta appeared for Mr Vella.

Very sad case indeed.
Further proof, as these cases keep coming to light on such a regular basis, that secular society is riddled with such occurrences. The light that was shone so intensely on the Church was designed to hide the volume of cases happening everywhere else.

What happened from 1993 till today? Did the paedophile stay away from children? 3 yrs and 6 months jail seem to be equivalent to a lifetime of repercussions by the poor boy. Good job, Maltese courts! This is sick.
