I was intrigued when I read an article in some magazine that the symbol of Atlantis was found on Fra Ben rock? Wow, I thought to myself, and started doing some of my own research.
It seems Plato described Atlantis as being a mountain range. Well, Malta is nothing but that.
He also states that Atlantis would have had rivers flowing into the vast meadows. Well, one prime example is in Pembroke, where a trench stretches from a small inlet leading to a vast underwater field stretching as far beyond Sliema.
Plato also states this was the land of milk and honey. Some people wonder this was because the land had many honey bees. Come on, milk and honey to me mean the land of wealth.
The Arabs still call us till this very day ħobża u sardina. Ok, forget the whisky bit. But ħobża means bread and, in English terms, the breadwinner is the one who brings wealth to the family. So could Plato’s land be the land of wealth?
Many a scientist and historian have placed Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean itself. However, studies have shown that, due to the thick sediment, it is not possible for any temples to have stood there. However, under the Maltese sea there are hidden temples.
Some historians even question whether Plato translated the ancient text correctly confusing west and east. Is it a minor mistake? I mean your left is my right; maybe he did get it wrong.
As for Atlantis being 9,000 kilometres to the west from Hercules temples, maybe it was 900 kilometres to the east as many a historian are thinking today. Well that would put Malta slap bang in that range. (Theosophists believe the civilisation of Atlantis reached its peak between a million and 900,000 years ago but destroyed itself through internal warfare brought about by the inhabitants’ dangerous use of magical powers.)
However what intrigued me most was when Rudolf Steiner stated that the Atlanteans were an ancient, highly evolved civilisation that had ships and aircraft powered by a mysterious form of energy crystal.
Plato describes it as a golden chariot with a flying horse. Then again, in that day and age how would you describe some kind of aircraft?
Furthermore, if anyone just looks at the image on Ta’ Fra Ben rock, the first thought that comes to mind is it resembles a homing-in zone, a target or even a landing pad.
I know this may be just a dream, however Martin Luther King had a dream and it came true. So did Eddie Fenech Adami also have a dream of bringing us closer to the EU. That also came true.
If one just takes a look at our history, every nation did what it could to dominate Malta due to our perfect geological position. So did the people of Atlantis do the same?
After all, why can’t the Maltese people have a dream and get the government to conduct archaeological surveys in our dark mysterious seas, even inviting foreign research teams to carry out underwater excavations?
All Malta needs is just one artefact connecting us to Atlantis and that would do nothing more than attract more tourists to Malta. It could also be worth more than drilling for oil. It could even change our history or even the whole world’s history!
After all, Nostradamus did say there would be a time when a ship’s captain would point to our islands and say: “There once stood the island of Melita.” Or did he cut short and meant to say Melita is now called Atlantis?!
