Balzan Youths’ promotion chances improved in midweek after the MFA upheld their protest against the result of their Division One match against Msida St Joseph.
The MFA Protests’ Board overturned Msida’s 3-0 win over Balzan after the latter successfully argued that debutant midfielder Valdo Alhinho was ineligible to play for the Saints in that December 18 match.
Balzan contended that Alhinho’s move to Msida was invalid as his former club Sliema Wanderers still had a transfer ban when the Saints filed the Portuguese’s registration documents at the Malta FA.
The Protests’ Board ruled in favour of Balzan who were awarded a 2-0 win. Balzan have now moved to second in the Division One standings on 11 points, two behind leaders St George’s while Msida remain bottom with minus four points.
Meanwhile, Balzan have strengthened their squad with the acquisition of Pedrinho. The Brazilian forward had spells with Msida and Sliema in the past.
