Adrian Attard Trevisan is today giving a presentation about the so-called ‘brain music system’, based on his research in the area. The event is organised by the Malta Group of Professional Engineering Institutions at the Radisson Blu hotel, St. Julians and starts with welcome refreshments at 5.45p.m.
Mr Attard Trevisan will show how listening to music is a personal experience which is influenced by a variety of factors. Music and other mental activities share the same cognitive functions as well as operations. These other mental activities include among others language as a means of expression and communication.
However, listening to music for the majority of people is mostly of a receptive nature. The interaction of music with the brain may be reflected in alterations in brain electrical activity, recorded by the electroencephalogram (EEG).
Mr Attard Trevisan is an audio engineering graduate who is pursuing postgraduate studies in audiological sciences and neurosciences. Currently he is based in London, undertaking research at UCL and London Metropolitan University with focus on electroencephalography and lecturing on two courses related to the area of neurofeedback.
The event is free and open to the public.
