@Chris Ebejer
I dont know why some people keep commenting that comment of Merkel that "multiculturalism had failed" in order to prove their point. I talked to some of the politicians personally of the CDU (I used to live in Germany myself and met them personally), (Merkel's party) and their aim is to improve the situation of immigrants in Germany, to make sure for example Turkish youth get a better education and thus have chances to better jobs, they feel that if the Turks in Germany stay with a lesser education, Germany will lose because they want people with good education and good jobs in Germany and not people who have no jobs. so what she means by multiculturalism has failed is that compared to other countries like England, Denmark, Holland, Germany was not so successful in integrating her citizens. It is unfair that you are using it to put forward your idea that you think multiculturalism is crap and there you are totally misquoting her.

So you're basing your comment on what some politicians told you? Also I don't see how Chris Ebejer misquoted her - Merkel said what she did, and it's true, the multi-cultural society in Germany is not running they way it could - hence, it has failed.

@ AFernandez
sorry but he is saying it is time "to wake up"," to go back to our roots" and then using her comment to base his statements, her comment is taken out of its context, he did not even say in Germany it has failed, he just says it failed as if it were applicable for all the world!!!!!!! and as if Merkel is pinpointing this truth, which he (Ebejer) is convinced about. Merkel is infact saying is that Germany failed to integrate them, this is left out by Ebejer. All he wants is find some base for his right wing attitude! and Merkel is against right wing fanatics by the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be a pleasure if Mrs Merkel would need to pass through Dock Street in Paola . . . . maybe Transport Malta would finally fill the tremendous deep and wide pot holes.

She is a very worthy politician. And one who knows when to put her foot down.
On must not forget the large investment which Germany has in Malta, some of it coming during her time as German Chancellor.
She deserves to be rightly honoured by Malta and the Maltese...

Welcome to Malta, but her soul will be in Berlin, to see if her coalition partner Minster of Foreign Affair general party conference is underway, and last opinion poll suggest that this party popularity is down under the national threshold of 5%.

Ahhh dear Edwin...Dr.Muscat has so much to worry about in planning on how to fix this depleted country, that I don't blame him for being late.
I hope that when he becomes Prime Minister he won't be late on the promised tax band cuts Dr.Lawrence Gonzi promised ages ago! Maybe finally we will get what we voted for!

Bloomberg news
Germany and Malta, the euro region’s largest and smallest economies, are alone in boosting their competitiveness and fiscal sustainability in the past five years, a study showed.
Every other euro country has slipped into worse economic health, according to a scoreboard of debt, labor, productivity and trade indicators published today by Allianz SE and the Lisbon Council, a Brussels research institute.

try reading the news item. Gonzi and Merkel are in the same class. They have both sucessfully led their countries. I pity you with your inferority complex.
M.Zammit
Jan 7th 2011, 00:18
Mr.Zahra...you know where's the real inferiority complex? It's in those who continue blinfoldly saying that Dr.Gonzi succeeded in his mandate. Dr.Gonzi is a failure to all those who voted for him. The only people who are happy are those usual leeches close to Dr.Gonzi who are always there to suck every bloody drop!
K. Miggiani
Jan 7th 2011, 01:57
Zahra - are you quite mad? Gonzi has driven this country into the ground. He shall earn his party a resounding defeat in the next elections, and we'll be governed by PL and its joke of a leader. All because PN has become the party of greed and corruption. You need to stop playing make-believe and wake up.

Micallef, I think you and your folk would greatly benefit from a lecture by a German (it would be a waste of time lecturing Joseph).
It may escape you, but the success of Germany is essentially built on their ageless and indomitable power to look adversity straight into its eyes and overcome it, not by useless get street gatherings, but by hard work and perseverance.
