Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has insisted he must know soon if the LA Galaxy are willing to let David Beckham join the Premier League high-flyers on loan otherwise the deal has no future.

For the former England captain, a stint with Spurs would signal to national manager Fabio Capello that he is still ready to represent his country.

The Galaxy would want the 35-year-old midfielder back in time for their Major League Soccer (MLS) season opener against Seattle Sounders on March 15.

And with Redknapp wanting Beckham, who enjoyed loan spells with Italian giants Milan in 2008 and 2009, for “at least three months”, time is running out for the Galaxy and Spurs to reach an agreement.

“I haven’t heard anything for a few days. I was looking at (signing him for) at least three months really,” Redknapp said yesterday.

“If it is a very a short-term thing it can be a problem, as much as I would like him and I am a great fan of his.

“If we are only talking eight or nine games by the time we get him ready, it is a difficult one. I would have to look at that carefully.

“I can’t suddenly be leaving people out and then after a few games David goes back and I have to mess about with the team again. It would be a difficult one if it is that short a period.

“We will have to wait until we get all those answers (from Galaxy) and look at it then.”

As for Blackburn Rovers’ reported interest in Beckham, Redknapp made a joke at the expense of his Premier League rivals India-based poultry firm owners Venky’s.

“I see Blackburn are in as well. Maybe they have more to offer him. They can offer him free chicken for life and we can’t compete with that.”
