The Labour Party is to hold a national protest demonstration in Valletta on January 14 following the latest increases in the prices of essential items, including fuel and gas.

Opposition leader Joseph Muscat in a statement said that the Opposition would also be moving a motion in Parliament.

The government, he said, was not protecting the interests of families and businesses but had only doubled the salaries of its own ministers.

"My appeal is for all people of good will to join a movement so that in a peaceful but firm way they can show their disapproval of the price rises," Dr Muscat said.
