Common approach to cities
While the Valletta City Gate is to be shortly demolished, conversely a city gate is being built in the city of Vittoriosa at the entrance of Main Gate Street. There seems to be an inconsistent policy with regard to city gates. Both cities are of intrinsic historical and architectural value and, therefore, merit a common “approach”.

Joe has a very good point the issue of City Gates seem to be somewhat inconsistent, Birgu very commendably are rebuilding an old historical entrance whilst Valletta is in the process of losing further its own identity though one has to say the demise started with the destruction of the old Gate which made way for the current monstrosity. Renzo Pianos plans shamefully leave rather crudely just a gap in the wall so to speak as a main entrance. It is obvious that whatever one says now will not make a difference as the work is progressing rapidly. One has to say that reasoning is not the strongest point when it comes to decisions taken by the decision makers!.
