Around €2,000 was raised at the first ever Christmas concert in aid of Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, organised by Żebbuġ council, with the help of the archpriest and the clergy of the parish, at Żebbuġ parish church.
The concert was by the Jesenik String Orchestra, which was in Malta for the first time to participate in the Malta International Folk Festival. The orchestra was set up 26 years ago in Olomouc in the Czech Republic. It won first prize twice at the France World Music Festival and is also the winner of the prestigious competition Europina.
After the recital, Żebbuġ mayor Alfred Grixti urged guests to raise more funds for Dar tal-Providenza. He then also presenteda €1,250 cheque to Dar tal-Providenza director Fr Martin Micallef – a little token from the “unexpected increase in mayors’ honoraria”.
