Former Nationalist MP Mario Felice has passed away in Arizona. He was 80.

Widely-respected for his knowledge of economic affairs, he was shadow minister of finance between 1971 and 1981.

Dr Felice became chairman of the Malta International Business Authority in 1989 and later chaired the Malta Financial Services Centre until 1995.

He was also president of the Malta branch of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. In that capacity he visited the White House for meetings with senior US officials in 1969 and was handed an award by NATO in 1974 for promoting understanding of ther alliance.

Dr Felice was married to Evelyn Cassar Reynaud. They had a son and two daughters.

The Labour Party expressed its condolences and praised Dr Felice for having always acted with integrity and honesty and for his role in the development of the financial services industry in Malta.
