Illegal immigration, which just over a year ago was the second highest concern for Maltese in a Eurobarometer survey, has dropped dramatically down the scale – with only one per cent of respondents identifying it as a matter of concern this year.

With immigration from Libya practically at a standstill in 2010 as a result of the controversial Libya-Italy pushback agreement, The Sunday Times survey shows that people’s immigration concerns fluctuate with the ebb and flow of the phenomenon.

Methodology

The Sunday Times New Year survey was conducted by MiscoInternational Ltd. The survey randomly polled 301 respondents and was conducted by telephone between December 18 and 20. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.8 per cent.
