Woman denies importing drugs in her suitcase
A Korean woman became the first person to be taken to court this year - pleading not guilty to having attempted to import 10 kilograms of cannabis resin hidden in a false bottom in her suitcase.
The police announced the drug seizure yesterday.
The woman, 38-year-old Eun Hee Kim, whose ordinary residence is in Thailand, was arrested at around 8.30 p.m. at the airport soon after she arrived on a flight from Zurich.
She was remanded in custody.

I'm glad Malta isn't like this! Yet I think people must respect our hospitality and laws...

How can you plead not guily when 10Kg of this filth is found in your personal baggage? Surely when found guilt the sentence should be much tougher since she pleaded not guilty in the first place.

As I understand it you simply must plead 'not guilty' under Maltese law (based on Napoleonic law), or the courts here dispense with most procedures and go straight to sentencing - I am not a legal expert perhaps someone can confirm or deny this?
In many other countries the full trial goes ahead, even if the defendent pleads guilty (such as the UK). So in effect it pays to lie under Malta's courts system, and being truthful is a disadvantage!

It's cannabis not heroin C.Cassar. I would make it mandatory for some people in Malta considering the attitude most people have in that god forsaken island.

If she caught in Indonesia she would have been given a life sentence as was Schapelle Corby when travelling from Australia to Bali.

@Robert Agius: Yes, Cannabis is illegal and 10Kg isn't for personal use, it's for dealing. The law ia the law. If you want to change the law then vote accordingly in the next elections. That's how a democracy works or do you think the law should only be applied when you fancy it?

The law is the law (and you ain't the judge either)...the problem with the law is not so easy to prove that she was not framed. You see you would need to be a complete idiot to say yes it is mine. This has nothing to do with democracy...and perhaps neither has voting these days. i was referring to what you called filth. It's a natural plant, unlike most of what is put into our food these days... you need to chill down...or take a toke perhaps
