First of, that test is for drivers only. No need of beathalyser to now who's drunk, just visit Paceville during the weekend.

Perhaps you don't see this news:

Yeah, that's 400 drivers.

I need to inform you that drugs in the state of California HAVE NOT been decriminalized. One can not be in possession of Heroin, Methamphetamine, Cocaine, Hashish and a host of other hard drugs. Marijuana, on the other hand is different.

Jan. 1, 2011 has brought new laws into action.

One can have a medical reason for legally buying & possessing marijuana, up to a certain amount. You are grossly mistaken in whats free here in California. Pls use Google to educate yourself before making statements that would make the rest of the good citizenship of California look bad. Not every one supports these new laws.

It's a proven fact that the hundreds of millions of dollars that are spent yearly (for the last 20 -/+ yrs), by law enforcement to eradicate this drug has been a waste of time. They themselves admit to losing the war on this drug. But the battle wages on, much to the dismay of the good tax payers of this state.

So sir, pls be more informed next time you reply to an article here...thumbs up for the police there. Thank you.

@D Xerri

It is not up to the police to legislate and close all the loopholes that obstruct random breathalyzer testing of drivers without having to prove reasonable grounds for suspecting "driving under the infuence".

Francis... Oh yes it most certainly is the duty of the police to make sure the streets and roads are safe, what better way to do it than cut down on the amount of people driving with alcohol in their blood.

It is a huge problem in Malta, the police does not take it seriously, which may be due to legislations, however, nevertheless they MUST start doing something about this, it is ridiculous to see how many people put others in danger because they think it is alright to drive home while drunk.
