Bristol Palin engagement called off... again

The daughter of Sarah Palin has called off her engagement to boyfriend Levi Johnston for the second time, three weeks after a surprise announcement that the couple were once again planning to wed.

Bristol Palin, who has a 19-month son with Mr Johnston, told People magazine in an interview on Tuesday she had broken off her planned nuptials after her two-time fiancé revealed he may have fathered a child with another woman.

“It’s over. I broke up with him,” Ms Palin told the magazine, accusing Mr Johnston of being obsessed with celebrity.

“The final straw was him flying to Hollywood for what he told me was to see some hunting show but come to find out it was that music video mocking my family,” she says. “He’s just obsessed with the limelight and I got played.”

The 19-year-old’s announcement came just a few weeks after she appeared alongside a beaming Mr Johnston and their son Tripp on the cover of Us magazine to reveal they were engaged once more.

“It felt right, even though we don’t have the approval of our parents,” Ms Palin was quoted as saying at the time.

The couple had famously called off their previous engagement two weeks after the birth of their son in December 2008.

Their break-up led to a very public feud between Johnston and 2008 Republican vice-presidential pick Sarah Palin, who traded barbs in the press.

Mrs Palin, who reacted coolly to news of Bristol’s engagement to Johnston, told People her daughter had learned a valuable lesson.

“I wish for Bristol to be able to move forward in life with her same forgiving, gracious, optimistic spirit, but from henceforth she’ll know to trust but verify,” Mrs Palin said.
