Gianluca Dingli had another busy racing weekend in Sicily with his team manager Mario Lena at the Kartodromo di Triscina in Castelvetrano earlier this month.

The young BRM Virtu Ferries Racing Team driver competed in the final race of the Sicilian season, known as La Festa del Pilota, in the 100cc prodriver, an unusual class for Dingli.

Nevertheless, Dingli highlighted his talent from the first practice session on Saturday morning as he was always the fastest driver on track. On Sunday, Dingli grabbed pole position after topping the qualifying timesheets, based on two laps.

In the race, the Maltese youngster led from start to finish to win the class.

Lately, Dingli has been appointed official driver of the 2011 Rotax Class for the BRM Racing Team Brescia. The official recruitment will take place on January 16 during the Kart and Race Fair in Montichiari, Brescia.

This season ended in the best possible way for Dingli who claimed top spot in the Maltese championship, organised by the Karting Club, and finished 35th overall in the Italian Championship.

The Rabat Local Council recently honoured Dingli by naming him Rabat youth of the year.

In a statement, Dingli thanked all his sponsors and backers namely, Virtu Ferries, the Rabat Local Council, especially Mayor Sandro Craus, the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport, Hetronic Malta (a division of Methode Electronics), Chevron Auto Dealer (Hubert Camilleri), the Malta Motorsport Federation, Bargains Teleshopping, Viking Signs, Silcolene Oils, Badger Karting (Edwin Gauci), Zoqdi Racing Team and Alberta.
