Malta’s honorary consul to Ottawa, Rupert Agius-Pease, has been appointed vice president, taxation, of Canadian-based SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., one of the world’s leading engineering and construction groups.
SNC-Lavalin companies provide engineering, procurement, construction, project management and project financing services to a variety of industry sectors, including agri-food, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, chemicals and petroleum, environment, heavy construction, mass transit, mining and metallurgy, power and water management.
Founded in 1911, SNC-Lavalin has been internationally active for 50 years, establishing a multicultural network that spans every continent. The SNC-Lavalin companies have offices across Canada and in more than 35 countries and are currently engaged in some 100 countries.
Mr Agius-Pease moved to Canada in 1990 to finalise his studies at the University of Ottawa. A member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, he is a graduate of the Canadian Institute’s taxation programme. During the past 20 years he occupied senior level positions in public practice, including that of international tax partner with one of the Big Six accounting firms.
He has spoken on a number of occasions at international tax conferences, including the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants National Tax Conference.
Mr Agius-Pease was appointed honorary consul of Malta to Ottawa last year. He is also a Knight of Magistral Grace of the Sovereign Military Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta.
