January 25, Conference on the future of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP).

This conference will discuss issues on how to boost growth of European businesses and which key issues should the EU focus on. The aim of this conference is to discuss a possible successor to the CIP programme given that the CIP will come to an end in 2013.

Therefore, there is a clear need for elaborate actions and priorities to support the competitiveness of European businesses after 2013. All interested stakeholders, including representatives of business and innovation agencies, are called to express their views. About 450 participants are expected to participate in the event.

February 1, Workshop on “Policies in support of high-growth innovative small and medium-sized enterprises”, Brussels.

The workshop will address the specific questions of effective policies for high-growth small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly with regard to fostering start-ups, access to finance and internationalisation.

It will also look into how policies for innovative high-growth SMEs are different to general SME policy, and whether there is a trade-off between both types of polices. Finally, a discussion will take place on the role the EU can play in fostering high-growth innovative SMEs.

The targeted sectors are industrial manufacture, transport, construction technology, IT, telecommunications, energy, medicine, health and environment. In 2011, the “SME Forum” will be extended to the “Logistics Management Forum”, which will take place in parallel for the first time.
