A Gozitan woman who lives in the US was this morning given a suspended sentence after she admitted having a rifle and a revolver wrapped in her luggage at the airport.
She had been accused of trying to export weapons without a licence.
Mary Camilleri Bajada, 47, was stopped early this morning after MIA security staff found the weapons as they scanned luggage before placing it in an aircraft's hold.
Police Inspector Mario Haber explained that the guns belonged to her father and she wanted to take them back home with her.
Magistrate Apap Bologna condemned her to a six month jail term suspended for one year.
