There was a drop of 933 people registering as unemployed in November over the corresponding month last year, according to the latest official statistics.
The unemployment rate fell across the Maltese islands. The number of people registering for work in Malta decreased by 838 and stood at 5,963, while the figure for Gozo amounted to 692, down from 787 in November 2009.
More than 40 per cent of the 5,251 males registering for work were 45 years old and over. Around one fifth of the total registered unemployed were women.
The number of disabled people registering for work also decreased by 7.2 per cent over the one-year period. Out of a total of 412 people, only 73 were women, making up 17.7 per cent of disabled people registering as unemployed.
The occupations most sought after by women were clerical and sales, while the highest share of men sought clerical and sales posts.
