A Maltese national has been appointed permanent head of the Mashreq/Maghreb European Council working group in charge of Foreign Policy.

John Gatt-Rutter will be heading the committee together with Maja Bozovic.

The appointments were made by the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.

Born in 1971, Mr Gatt-Rutter has been the European Council’s principal administrator for the Middle East Peace Process and relations with the Palestinian Authority.
