Former Valletta FC striker Charles Zammit passed away on Saturday aged 66.

In his four seasons with Valletta, between 1965 and 1969, Zammit scored 12 goals in 36 matches. Zammit is best remembered for inspiring Valletta’s Cassar Cup triumphs in 1966 and 1968.

In the 1966 final, Zammit netted a hat-trick in Valletta’s 3-1 win over Sliema Wanderers. Two years later, Zammit struck the winning goal as Valletta beat Sliema Wanderers 2-1 to capture the Cassar Cup for the second time in two years.

Besides Valletta, Zammit spent one season with Ħamrun Spartans in 1964/65 and another with Żebbuġ Rangers whom he helped to win promotion to the first division in 1969/70.

Zammit’s funeral will take place tomorrow at 9 a.m. at St Cajetan Parish Church, Ħamrun.
