A Maltese missionary nun died in a horrific car crash in Israel which also claimed the lives of two other nuns on Christmas Eve.

The Maltese casualty is Sister Victoria Camilleri, 67, known as Sr Salvatorina. She was originally from Mellieħa, but has been working in Israel for the past 30 years. She was with four other nuns in a black car driving to Jerusalem for Christmas celebrations.

At around 2 p.m., their car overturned and hit a concrete electric pole at Yardena Junction in the northern city of Beit She’an.

The other two nuns who died were Italian and Jordanian, while two Italian nuns were injured.

It is not yet clear whether Sr Salvatorina’s body will be brought to Malta for burial.
