Increase in employment registered
The number of full time employees increased by 227 in June when compared to the same month last year.
The National Statistics Office said that during the period the number of people registering as unemployed dropped by 498.
In June, the number of full-time employed persons stood at 145,690 whereas the number of registered unemployed amounted to 6,775.
Over the preceding month, the number of persons employed on a full-time basis increased by 819, while the registered unemployed dropped by 277.
In the 12 months to June, the full-time employed population increased by 227, while the registered unemployed fell by 498.
The number of people employed on a full-time basis in the private sector went up by 756 when compared to the previous month.
Total part-time employment in the same month increased by 984 over the preceding month. The number of part-timers also holding a full-time job increased by 110, while part-timers whose job was their primary occupation went up by 874.

For the service of surfers the increase in employment was registered in real estate, renting and business activities that registered an increase of 1181 persons. The highest increase is registered in what is termed other business activities with an increase of 1129.
Other increases have been registered in education (213), health and social work (166), and Other community, social and personal service activities (426).
Manufacturing and Tourism has seen a decrease in employment.
For Malta to be competitive these are the sectors that must increase employment as these are export-oriented.
Employment in soft services does not generate any real wealth for the economy.
