Police and security agents had to take cover when a driver crashed onto the front lawn of former President George W. Bush's home near Dallas.

Neither Bush nor his wife Laura were injured and there was no reported damage to their house, said Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan.

The driver, who had been visiting one of Bush's neighbours, was questioned but released. Dallas police are investigating.

The Bushes live in a gated community in North Dallas.

Bush spokesman David Sherzer says the Bushes were at home but never in danger.
