This was a record year for the Foreign Ministry with more than 1,500 contacts of a commercial nature being made by embassies and Maltese consulates abroad.

The ministry said in a statement 111 bilateral agreements came into effect or were ratified during this legislature. Thirty related to foreign direct investment, 20 were on double taxation, six related to visas and four were on the promotion and protection of investment.

It said it was an important tool in 18 commercial visits in Malta and overseas.
