The Taekwondo Dragon Club concluded its calendar of events for 2010 by participating in the 25th Park Pokal tournament in Sindelfingen, Germany, earlier this month.
The club was represented by three of its members, Duncan Munro, Lynsey Fenech and Mauro Busuttil.
Sharelle Zammit, who trains with another club, also took part in this event after conducting her training under the hands of Sa-bomnim Formosa.
For the Park Pokal, there were over 1,000 martial artists from 16 countries as the tournament is a very reputable one across Europe.
Munro participated in the Poomsae (pattern) competition and his three colleagues in Kyorugi (Olympic sparring contest). Fenech and Zammit returned home with a bronze medal each as Busuttil lost his first match 3-2 to a German opponent.
Munro produced a creditable performance and placed 11th overall in his category.
Last month, the club held its last round of Promotion Tests for its senior class with the following players making the new grade as follows:
9th Kup (yellow tab) – James Aquilina; 7th Kup (green tab) – Henry Aquilina; 6th Kup (green belt) – Kyle Vassallo and Diane Fenech; 5th Kup (blue tab) – Nicola Borg Cardona; and 2nd Kup (red belt) – Duncan Munro.
Another promotion test was held by the Malta Taekwondo Federation’s technical board on the same occasion.
Here Lynsey Fenech was promoted 1st Poom (junior Black Belt) and Irina Atanasova 1st Kup (black tab).
Meanwhile, the club was focusing on other matters away from the mat recently following the opening of another branch in Kirkop.
Formosa is also conducting training at the Junior Lyceum in Pembroke as part of the After School Sports Programme with the participation of 14 girls.
