Vodafone in a statement this afternoon confirmed that a former employee had violated its strict data privacy compliance requirements and disclosed information about the itemised bill of murder victim Christina Sammut to another person.

"At no point in time did the former employee divulge information relating to the subscriber’s location," it said.

Christina Sammut was shot at Mgarr earlier this month and died soon after in hospital. Her former partner has been accused of her murder and another man is expected to be accused of giving the alleged murderer Ms Sammut's itemised bill, in violation of the Data Protection Act.

Vodafone said it took the privacy of its customers’ information extremely seriously and to this effect, it had in place detailed compliance requirements for all of its employees to safeguard against disclosure of sensitive data.

"Vodafone Malta is deeply saddened by Christina Sammut’s death and is working closely with the police to provide them with any necessary help in their investigations," it said.
