The 2010 Urban Jungle Mdina to Spinola race had a dramatic finish yesterday as British runner James Douglas (picture) won the men’s event after a neck-and-neck duel with Jonathan Balzan. The struggle for first place in the 17.4km race went to the wire as Douglas, of Charmwood AC, finished marginally ahead of Balzan, of St Patrick’s, in 56 minutes and 58 seconds. Balzan clocked the same time as Douglas while Pembroke’s Brian Magri was third in 58.28 minutes. In the women’s race, Lisa Marie Bezzina was a clear-cut winner as the Athleta Pembroke athlete reached the finish line in Spinola after one hour six minutes and 29 seconds. St Patrick’s Angele Muscat was second in 1:09.17 ahead of team-mate Rita Galea, 1:11.14.
