The Labour Party has backed a call by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association to be involved in the Air Malta reform talks.
The party said the airline should not be considered just as a company, but also as a key asset on which various sectors of the economy depended, including tourism. Therefore all stakeholders should be involved in the talks.
The party reiterated its view that it made no sense for Air Malta to fall within the responsibilities of the Ministry of Finance without links to the Ministry of Tourism.
The government, the party said, needed to draw up an air transport policy and a national politcy on tourism which would be continuiosly updated in line with economic developments.
