The Consumers' Association has called on the Consumer and Competition Division to investigate petrol station owners, who, it said, were acting like a cartel.

The division was reacting to calls by the owners for an increase in their commission. They have also threatened industrial action from today. The owners have said that some of the increase will go towards refurbishment of their petrol stations

The association said it was concerned that the increases which the owners are seeking would be passed on to consumers.

It said the petrol station owners were acting like a cartel while Enemalta had a monopoly in the provision of fuel.

The association has also written to the Malta Resources Authority expressing its concerned that the petrol station owners were acting like a cartel, that Enemalta had a monopoly and also questioning the way the MRA established fuel prices.
