Free health checks for dogs
Dogs Trust and the SPCA are offering all dogs in Malta a free health check during the Christmas period, worth about €300.
The offer includes a head-to-toe check-up, vaccination, preventative treatment for fleas and worms, as well as neutering and micro-chipping.
Dog owners are encouraged to book an appointment soon to avoid disappointment. Appointments are available until May 31 but must be booked before January 31.
The Malta Veterinary Association and Happy Paws Clinic support this offer.
Neutering prevents unwanted litters of puppies and prevents certain cancers. The neutered dog is also less likely to stray or get into a fight.
Sarah De Cesare, Dogs Trust campaigns manager, said: “We want everyone to remember the four-legged members of the family by treating them to a really special gift this Christmas – the gift of health. It will not cost a dog owner a penny.
“Aside from health checks and vaccinations to ensure your dog’s health, we’re keen to emphasise the importance of neutering and micro-chipping as part of being a responsible dog owner.
“Microchipping is a safe and effective way of reuniting lost pets with their owners.”
The partnership between Dogs Trust and SPCA has improved the lives of thousands of dogs in Malta by helping owners pay for veterinary treatments and procedures. Both organisations have been campaigning to help spread the word of responsible dog ownership across the country.
For the past 18 months, both organisations have run a successful campaign offering free neutering and micro-chipping for dogs belonging to those who receive social government benefits, as well as farmers, hunters and factory dog owners.
