Improved dialogue with Israel through signing of MOU

Foreign Minister Tonio Borg and Israeli deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon have signed a memorandum of understanding for diplomatic consultations that establishes dialogue and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.

The MOU reflects the strengthening of the relations between the two states in the past year.

Israel and Malta are also expected to sign cultural and economic agreements in the near future following a visit by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi to Israel in the beginning of next year.

Mr Ayalon said that Malta was an important state for Israel.

“Its membership in the EU and its good ties with North African states could be used to promote Israel’s political and economic interests in the region.

“The visit of Foreing Minister Liberman was an important turning point in the relations between the states, which have gotten closer ever since,” he said.

Get over it! The are standard agreements between countries which are of mutual benefit.

@willfred camilleri
MALTA is being forced to enter into such agreement with izrael.
No agreement with izrael will be of benefit to us.
We have nothing to export / sell / supply to, they do.
These agreements are being forced on as a bed for izrael to be accepted by
all EU countries

Better than being forced by a certain Libyan leader around, or else flooding us with illegal immigrants....

@Joseph Cachia You are so wrong! Israel has a lot to offer to Malta, especially in the areas of solar energy, IT, medicine, trade and many other areas to numerous to mention. Do not let your bias blind you - as the only democracy in the Middle East, Israel has a in common with Malta, then any of the other fellow Semites in the Middle East, especially when it comes to sharing the same Western (Judeo-Christian) values.
