HSBC-Vodafone Export and Innovation Awards winners announced

Four manufacturing and services-related Maltese businesses were recently recognised for their strong commitment to export and innovation, winning the inaugural HSBC/Vodafone Export and Innovation Awards in their respective categories.

The prestigious awards were presented by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, OBE, one of the world’s greatest living explorers, during a gala presentation ceremony at the Hilton, Malta.

Also present for the event was Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Land in the Ministry of Finance, the Economy and Investment Jason Azzopardi.

Medserv plc won Most Improved Corporate Exporter, with an annual turnover of more than €10 million; Alberta Fire Safety and Security Co. Ltd is runner-up, followed by Crimsonwing plc.

The Most Innovative Corporate Enterprise award was won by Carlo Gavazzi Ltd, followed by runners-up Medserv and Simonds Farsons Cisk.

ISTC Ltd were awarded Most Improved SME Exporter, with an annual turnover of less than €10 million; Consolidated Biscuits Ltd and ICP Ltd came second and third in the category.

Most Innovate SME Business went to ICP Ltd, followed by Seifert Systems (Malta) Ltd and RS2 – second and third respectively.

The different categories ensured SMEs could compete on a level playing field with larger companies, as each entrant was assessed on their own merits.

The four winners will gain automatic entry to the 2011 European Business Awards, which HSBC also supports. Cash prizes have been provided by HSBC that will be donated to charities of the winners’ choice.
